WHEELING — Wheeling Central’s Mike Young has finalized his West Virginia roster for the 77th annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Game by naming his wide receivers and linebackers.
The game will be played on Saturday, July 22 at 7:15 at Wheeling Island Stadium. Players will report to Wheeling University on Sunday for the start of the one-week camp in preparation for the event.
“I like the makeup of our team,” Young said. “We’ve got some receivers that can really run and have good hands.
“Our linebackers might be the strength of our defense. We’ve got some good ones.”
The wide receivers/tight ends are:
WILL JAMES, Wheeling Park – This 6-0, 150-pounder has speed to burn as he caught several long touchdown passes for the Patriots last fall.
A standout student, he achieved a 4.1 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.
James will attend Wheeling University in the fall to continue his academic and athletic careers.
Will is the son of DeSean and Brenna James of Wheeling.
NATE COLEMAN, Linsly – A 6-3, 195-pounder, Coleman gives the Mountaineers some size when they look to throw.
A four-year letterman for the Cadets, he caught 51 passes for 1,043 yards last fall.
He was first-team all-OVAC and second-team all-Valley.
Coleman will attend Walsh University.
Nate is the son of Robert and Rhonda Coleman of Wheeling.
LUCA DILORENZO, Linsly – A 5-7, 150-pound athlete, DiLorenzo lined up at several positions for the Cadets during his career.
After starting as a quarterback, he eventually moved to wideout. Young hinted he could be used in the backfield, as well.
Luca is the son of Ron Scott and Adria DiLorenzo.
The linebackers are:
JUVENCIO QUINTANA, Jr., Oak Glen – This 5-10, 190-pounder was named Offensive Lineman of the Year for the Golden Bears after grading out at 92 percent.
However, Young indicated he would be used on the defensive side of the ball where he made 94 tackles – seven TFLs – and forced a fumble last fall.
Juvencio is the son of Juvencio Sr. and Andrea Southards of New Cumberland.
ERICK BROTHERS, Jr., Wheeling Park – A 6-1, 220-pounder for the Patriots, Brothers Jr. made 115 tackles, had 18 TFLs, four quarterback sacks and an interception last fall.
He was second-team all-state and gist-team all-valley. Also a three-time W.Va. state wrestling champion, he has signed with West Virginia University.
Erick is the son of Erick Sr. and Tashina Brothers of Wheeling.
ADAM ANGEL IV, Cameron – A 6-2, 180-pounder, Angel charted 152 tackles last fall, with 108 being solo stops. He recorded 13 TFLs, sacked the opposing quarterback eight times, recovered six fumbles and forced five. He had five defensive touchdowns.
He was first-team all-state Class A, first-team all-OVAC and first-team all-Mason Dixon.
Angel will enroll in the electricians union.
Adam is the son of Adam Angel III.
BRADEN WHIPKEY, Parkersburg South – A 6-3, 215-pounder, Whipkey was a key component of the W.Va. Class AAA runner up Patriots.
He was an all-OVAC honorable mention.
Whipkey will attend Marietta College in the fall.
Braden is the son of Amer and James Hall of Washington, W.Va.
LOGAN GASCHLER, Brooke – This 5-11, 210-pounder led the Bruins in tackles last season. He was on the all-OVAC first team.
Logan is the son of Bob and Kerry Gaschler of Wellsburg.
ZACK WISE, Hundred – A 5-8, 205-pounder, Wise was a two-time all-stater and two-time all-OVAC performer for the Hornets.
He charted 134 tackles and recovered a pair of fumbles.
Zack is the son of Larry and Correna Wise of Littleton.
LEVI TEETS, Trinity Christian – A 5-7, 165-pounder, Teets forced 15 fumbles in his career, recovering 10 in just 34 games.. He also had 10 interceptions. Offensively, he ran for 2,168 career yards and scored 52 total touchdowns.
Teets was all-state second team in 2021 and 2022. He also made all-OVAC three times and all-Mason Dixon four times.
He will attend Grove City College in the fall.
Levi is the son of Mike and Lori Teets of Morgantown.
A late addition to the team:
DANTE SUGGS, Wheeling Central – This 6-2, 250-pounder was a terror for the Maroon Knights in both trenches.
He was a first-team all-stater in 2022 and 2023. He was also selected all-Valley in 2022-23.
Suggs will attend Denison University in the fall to continue his academic and athletic careers.
Dante is the son of Ricardo Suggs, Jr., and Megan Brak of Wheeling.
