Benthings is famed not only for his exceptional gaming skills but for his fascinating tattoos inspired by anime.
As he steps into a coaching role for the upcoming Season 13, Ben had an in-depth chat with ONE Esports, discussing the inspiration and symbolism behind his tattoos.
Benthings elaborates on what his anime tattoos represent
The first tattoo which catches your attention is Hanamichi Sakuragi from Slam Dunk, mirroring Ben’s own journey as a gamer during Season 9.
Speaking about his choice, he said, “Sakuragi symbolizes the value of hard work. His journey from a backup player to a leading one resembles my own story of hard work and dedication and hence why I resonate with him.”
Next, Ben showcased his Gon from Hunter X Hunter tattoo, a character renowned for persistent determination and buoyant nature.
“Gon, as a character, taught me to stay goal-oriented, maintain a friendly attitude, and avoid judging people,” shared Benthings, underlining these qualities in his personal life.
Among Benthings’ various tattoos, Chrollo Lucifer, also from Hunter X Hunter, is a symbolic representation of strategic intellect and mastermind planning.
“Chrollo’s unique strategy planning skills inspire me to think thoroughly and strategically, not only in the game, but also in my day-to-day life,” Benthings explicated.
Adding extra personalization, right above his Chrollo tattoo, Ben proudly carries a tattoo of his fiancée’s name, Dayen, in Japanese lettering, a testament to his love and dedication in the relationship.
While discussing his tattoo of Killua, Benthings smiled fondly, stating it mostly represents his fan love rather than deep symbolism.
“I’m a huge fan of Hunter X Hunter, and Killua is among my favorite characters,” he acknowledged, demonstrating a more jovial aspect of his ink story.
