Panel: What would happen if Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua share a ring next year?

This week’s panellists were asked to imagine a fight between heavyweights Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua and then pick a winner

Wayne Alexander (Former European super-welterweight champion)

I would have to pick Wilder. Wider has only been beaten by Tyson Fury, who he had badly hurt in their last contest and who is the number one heavyweight in the world. Deontay, even though he was knocked out by Tyson, still showed that he has massive punching power last time out against Robert Helenius. Anthony put up a gallant and brave performance against Usyk, but I feel he is the more vulnerable of the two. I think he would try to outsmart Wilder but eventually get caught, hurt and stopped by round five or six. I hope I’m wrong.

Tyrone McKenna (Welterweight contender)

I honestly think Wilder is one of the most dangerous heavyweights at the minute with his insane punch power. That, combined with AJ’s lack of movement at times, means I could see him landing heavy on AJ and winning. But it’s definitely a fight I’d love to see.

Tunde Ajayi (Trainer)

It’s an enthralling fight. Certain people seem to have written AJ off, but I still believe he can become champion again. With Wilder, for all his natural, God-gifted power, defensively he’s all over the place and this is where AJ could capitalise and catch him first with a big shot. Having said that, if Deontay lands first we’ve already seen the destruction he causes. That guarantees a 50/50 fight.

Jason Cunningham (Former European super-bantamweight champion)

Deontay Wilder by KO for me. Crazy one-punch power. Credit to Fury for the way he dealt with him also. Above any other heavyweight fight at the minute, I’d love to see Wilder vs. Joe Joyce. That has entertainment written all over it.
