Panel: If Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk gets made, who wins and how?

Wayne Alexander (Former European super-welterweight champion)

I have to go with Fury. Even though Tyson has made it a difficult fight to make – almost as if he doesn’t really want the fight – I still believe he has all the attributes to come out on top. He is bigger, stronger, taller, and heavier, and he can make it very hard for Usyk to get close to him. This would be the largest opponent Usyk has fought and I just feel that he will find it difficult to outbox and counter Tyson. I doubt that Tyson can really hurt Usyk, but I see him winning on points.

Michael Conlan (Featherweight contender)

I think Fury wins wide in a cagey and scrappy fight. His size and strength, along with his speed and agility for a man of his size, is a nightmare for anyone to deal with. I’m a massive Usyk fan but feel a Fury win is inevitable.

Gary Logan (Former Southern Area welterweight champion)

If anyone in the world has a chance of defeating the skills of Fury, it’s Usyk, who is getting better at managing the size difference at heavyweight. If Fury in his best shape, he wins, but the fight potentially happening in April hurts Fury. That, plus the high skill level of Usyk, has me leaning towards Usyk on points.

Gareth A Davies (Journalist)

No foregone conclusion. Fury is favourite for a reason, given his weight, height and reach advantages and his ability to adapt, but Usyk, a master of movement himself, could take the early rounds. Fury may have to be patient and settle, before applying pressure on the Ukrainian. It’s an intriguing match-up, and I pick Fury to win late, by stoppage or on points. But the “Gypsy King” will need to be at his best.
