Premier League action returns to the Theatre of Dreams on Tuesday, as Manchester United clash with Nottingham Forest. Both sides will be desperate for the victory on the resumption as they look to continue their fights at contrasting ends of the league standings.
Premier League Preview
Erik ten Hag will be hoping that Manchester United can do their talking on the pitch as the season resumes. There were a lot of off-field issues in the first half of the campaign, with much of that focusing on Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation at the club. However, just before the World Cup got underway, United released the Portuguese superstar from his contract, meaning that there will now be pressure on the players to show that they are good enough without the mega-star.
United’s recent form is relatively strong, as they have lost once in their previous six, and have claimed victories in two of their previous three. However, they remain three points off the Champions League spots in the league standings, meaning that they can ill-afford a slow resumption to the season if they are to achieve their target.
Nottingham Forest also come into this fixture in relatively good form, as they have picked up two wins in their previous four, which is as many as they managed in their first eleven games of the season. Forest has also lost just once in their previous five games. They went into the break in good confidence after beating Crystal Palace 1-0.
However, Steve Cooper will be aware that they still have an almighty challenge on their hands if they are to remain in the top-flight. At present, they have the second-worst defensive record in the league, and have scored the joint-second fewest number of goals.
Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest Head to Head
This will be a first meeting between the sides since February 1999 when United ran out 8-1 winners. In fact, United have won the previous six matches that they have played against Forest in all competitions, conceding just twice.
Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest Prediction
United are likely to be without their first-choice central defenders for this fixture, while Forest will need to contend with Dean Henderson. Despite that, we struggle to see anything other than United making a winning return to Premier League action at Old Trafford.
