Another Brazilian club, Corinthians, were the inaugural winners of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2000.
Another Manchester club, United, were competing that year as well.
Alex Ferguson’s side, who claimed a domestic treble the year before, were eliminated at the group stage.
Vasco de Gama finished top of their group to reach the final – only to lose on penalties to their fellow Brazilians.
Ferguson’s side became the first English winners in 2008 with Liverpool and Chelsea also going on later to claim the crown.
Brazilian sides have lifted the title on four occasions although this is the first appearance in a final for Fluminense.
Last year’s winners, Real Madrid, are the most successful club in the competition with five wins.
Will it be Man City or Fluminense who is crowned the next #ClubWC champion?
