EIGHTY per cent of Boxing News app users agreed with the majority decision of two out of three ringside judges that Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury. However, a former British world champion had a different opinion.
Kell Brook, who narrowly beat Shawn Porter by majority decision a decade ago to claim the IBF welterweight title, believed that Fury should have won last night’s fight in Riyadh.
The judges Mike Fitzgerald and Manuel Oliver Palomo scored the heavyweight bout in favor of Usyk, with scores of 114-113 and 115-112, while Craig Metcalfe gave a 114-113 decision in favor of Fury.
When asked by Boxing News inside the Kingdom Arena, Brook offered his own analysis.
“It was a very technical fight, but I felt Tyson Fury did enough to win,” he said.
“I believe Fury was working well with his jab in the beginning, winning rounds until he got caught with a shot later on. Despite that, I still think he did what was necessary to secure the victory.”
Brook added, “In my opinion, I had Fury ahead by three rounds, possibly two or three rounds, but we might need to review the fight again.”
