IT’S official. Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr will fight Terence “Bud” Crawford.
The two unbeaten welterweight superstars will finally throw down on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Spence 28-0 (22) and Crawford 39-0 (30) both used social media to announce the Premier Boxing Champions summer showdown.
“Finally giving the fans what they want! This one a throwback fight on paper but it could be a one-sided ass whooping, one of the biggest fights in the century,” said Spence.
Crawford meanwhile posted a video saying: “The wait is over. Game time. Errol Spence-Terence Crawford, July 29, Las Vegas, Nevada. Everybody come out, show support and watch me fry this fish.”
The seafood reference, for those who don’t know, is aimed at Spence who recently posted a picture on Instagram entitled ‘Strap Season’. The image showed a half shark-half human cartoon character, wearing Spence’s shorts, who had a scythe in one hand and with the other was knocking on the door of Crawford.
Animation aside Spence v Crawford will cap off what is a spectacular week for the sport. Four days earlier Stephen Fulton will travel to Japan in a bid to take down the ‘Monster’ Naoya Inoue in their super-bantamweight spectacular. These two fights cap off what has so far been a tremendous year for boxing inside the ring, at least.
No other details have been revealed but ESPN reported yesterday that a rematch clause would be in place for whoever lost on July 29. From there they would then have 30 days to confirm. The second fight would then take place by the end of 2023.
