Inaugural Olympic Esports Week reveals games lineup, includes Fortnite

The International Olympic Committee have revealed the details, date, and start of ticket sales for their inaugural Olympic Esports Week event set to take place in Singapore.

Ticket are available now for the event, which will run from June 22 to 25, 2023. There will be 10 competitive events which also includes the International Shooting Sport Federation’s challenge featuring Fortnite.

Yes, Fortnite is indeed officially now an Olympic (e)sport, along with other games such as Rocket League, Gran Turismo, and Just Dance.

As an esports event, video games take center stage. However it isn’t just popular titles that are the only competitive events. There are also virtual versions of real life sports such as archery, cycling, baseball, taekwondo, and even chess.

Again, tickets are available now ranging from S$10 for a single day to S$30 for the full three day pass for adults. Note this is in Singapore Dollars, which would convert to $7.54 to 22.62 USD respectively.

To give a brief description of Fortnite portion for this event, as the others were not detailed in their announcement, 12 players from the 2023 Fortnite Champion Series will compete on a specifically designed creative island imitating that of real life shooting competitions.

So those expecting to see a battle royale during Olympic Esports Week will be disappointed to see the game not be run in its traditional style.
