Kihei’s Betty Brooks, 99, takes part in a water aerobics class  being taught by 89-year-old instructor Nellie Martin Thursday morning at Kihei Aquatic Center. Brooks, who is nicknamed “B.B.” after the cartoon character Betty Boop, was a waitress in California for 60 years and still loves to play cards. She said she never learned to swim, but finds water aerobics “refreshing.” Martin teaches the senior class at the center three days a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 9:15 to10:15 a.m. “It’s good for your joints, heart and spirit,” Martin said after teaching the class Thursday. Kihei Aquatic Center also hosts intermediate water aerobics and deep water aerobics classes through the week. Interested students can call 808-891-4960 to check on days and times.
