Esports Giant Ninjas In Pyjamas Announces ‘Fortnite’ Debut

Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP), the Swedish esports powerhouse, has today announced an all-new expansion into all too familiar competitive gaming territory–arguably one of the fiercest arenas of digital combat yet.

Today (March 29), NIP revealed it was aiming to replicate past successes in the likes of CS:GO and Rainbow Six Siege to become a “leading force” in Fortnite, and has committed itself to providing its players with “the best possible resources to succeed”–starting with their first player, Oscar “Refsgaard” Dalgas Refsgaard, a Danish player who previously spent time with Falcons Esport.EU.

The new venture comes hot on the heels of Ninjas in Pyjamas’ announcement two months ago, when it revealed it was entering the competitive Rocket League scene, signing a trio of Brazilian players to duke it out in the South American region of the Rocket League Championship Series.

“No doubt that Fortnite is a wildly popular game overall, and it’s been on our radar for a long time,” said Jonas Gundersen, chief operating officer at NIP. “Cautious about adding too many titles, we want to sustain all of them properly with the needed infrastructure. Rocket League, a big step for us, is a foothold into a generally younger demographic and future NIP fans.”

Gundersen explained that by adding Fortnite to that mix, he hopes NIP will utilize its synergy with Epic as a publisher, and that tying in Fortnite Creative would be a “natural next step.” He added: “Refsgaard is an incredibly talented player who we believe can be one of the biggest stars – a fantastic fit for us.”

Refsgaard himself added: “I’ve been super excited for this NIP announcement I remember watching them (NIP) play in CS:GO a long time ago, even before I played Fortnite, so it’s kinda crazy that I’m now a part of the team–can’t wait to see what the future holds!”

Refsgaard’s first official competition under the NIP banner will come at the FNCS Major 2 Weekly Competition, kicking off April 13, where he will be managed by the squad’s teams operations manager, Nic “Wolf” Sølvmose.
