JOE CORDINA may be facing American opposition in his upcoming fight, according to recent speculation. The Welsh super-featherweight impressed in a gruelling bout against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov on April 22, ending in a belt around his waist and a win for Cordina in front of a boisterous Cardiff crowd.
Cordina’s recent social media activity included a Twitter exchange with O’Shaquie Foster, prompting rumours that the two fighters could face off. Eddie Hearn, Cordina’s promoter, noted his keen interest in arranging the fight, dubbing it an “unbelievable” unification bout. However, Hearn also hinted that negotiations with Foster’s team are still ongoing and depend on whether Foster’s costs can be met.
Foster, who won his own world super-featherweight strap in February after defeating Rey Vargas, is currently a free agent. Either way, if the fight does transpire, it is expected to be a challenging and captivating matchup for boxing fans everywhere.
