Diego Costa and PSG players test positive for coronavirus

Athletico Madrid player, Diego Costa, and Santiago Arias have tested positive for coronavirus and have been placed in isolation. They will not be participating in preseason training today. Other players underwent testing on Thursday, but Costa and Arias were absent due to their positive test results.

Athletico Madrid has confirmed that both players are currently isolating themselves, and they have not shown any symptoms of the disease. The team will start their season at the end of the month, facing Granada in La Liga. Their first two matches were postponed as they had participated in the Champions League quarter-finals, and their season ended late.

Following UEFA rules, the French delegation was tested on Wednesday before travelling to Sweden for a Nations League match on Saturday. France goalkeeper, Steve Mandanda, tested positive for coronavirus and will not be featuring in the match against Sweden and Croatia.

Steve Mandanda tests positive for coronavirus, says FFF.

Steve Mandanda’s test results showed the goalkeeper had contracted coronavirus. He underwent another test on the same day, which showed positive results. Therefore, he will not be participating in the match against Sweden and will leave the group on Friday. This was confirmed in a statement by the French Football Federation (FFF).

Additionally, three other Paris Saint-Germain players have also tested positive for the disease, making the total number of positive cases in the French squad six. The club confirmed the news on Thursday.

The French Ligue-1 started on August 21, but the French champions are yet to start their league following their Champions League final last month. The club was given more time before starting their Ligue-1 fixtures, allowing their players to have some rest. They will begin their Ligue-1 fixtures on September 10 against Lens.

Meanwhile, Marseille and Saint Etienne were supposed to have their opening day match, but it was postponed as a few players tested positive for the disease.

The Premier League may also face similar problems ahead of the next season, as many players returning from Greece have tested positive. If the number of cases increases and key players need quarantine, the season could be disrupted at the beginning.
