The Premier League resumes on Boxing Day, with a traditional round of fixtures in England’s top-flight. Two sides that will be desperate to get off to the best possible start will clash at Selhurst Park, as both Crystal Palace and Fulham will be looking for a return to winning ways.
Premier League Preview
Fulham have enjoyed an excellent return to the Premier League this term, and they will be hoping that the World Cup break hasn’t stifled the momentum that they were building. The Cottagers currently sit ninth in the league standings, and they could move up to seventh with a victory on the road. However, they come into this fixture without a win in three, while they also lost their previous two before the international break.
Their latest loss was inflicted in dramatic fashion, as Manchester United scored a 90th minute winner at Craven Cottage. However, they would have still taken a lot of confidence from their performance in that fixture, as they were certainly more than good value for a point.
Crystal Palace remain level on points with Fulham coming into this fixture, but their inferior goal difference means that they sit in the bottom half of the standings. However, Patrick Vieira will still likely be appeased with the performances from his team in the first half of the season.
But, they will need to be more productive in the final third when the season resumes, as they have scored just 15 goals in the 14 games that they have played to this point. Only the bottom five teams in the Premier League has scored fewer goals than the Eagles. However, they did have good form before the international break, as they had won three of their previous five games.
Crystal Palace vs Fulham Head to Head
Palace has a very good recent record in this fixture, as they are unbeaten in their previous five matches against Fulham. However, the previous meeting in February 2021 did end in a 0-0 draw.
Crystal Palace vs Fulham Prediction
Despite having a poor record in this fixture, I think Fulham look like the most likely winner at Selhurst Park. They enjoyed an excellent first half to the season, and they will be boosted by the fact that many of their stars returned to the club fully fit. Aleksandar Mitrovic could have a big part to play in this fixture as he looks to bounce back following a disappointing World Cup in Qatar.
