Tottenham Hotspur will be one of a number of big clubs in England looking to get back on track in the Premier League this season. Their first season with Ange Postecoglou in charge begins with a trip to Brentford on Sunday.

The 2023-24 campaign will be an important one for Spurs, as they look to get back into the Champions League spots. It is the first season in over ten years that the club won’t be playing in a European competition after finishing eighth in 2022-23. Postecoglou was named as the new full-time boss over the summer, and his chances at the club have been immediately enhanced following the hierarchies decision not to sell Harry Kane to Bayern Munich or Manchester United.
It will likely take time for Spurs to implement Postecoglou’s plans, as they will be a more possession-based side than they were under both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. Strides have already been made in the summer window, as they have added James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, and Alejo Veliz.

Brentford finished only a place lower than Spurs in the standings last term, as Thomas Frank’s side enjoyed their best ever Premier League finish. However, there will be new challenges ahead of their third season in the English top-flight, most notably the fact that they will be without Ivan Toney until the beginning of 2024.
The striker was their top scorer in the league last term with 20 goals, but he is suspended by the FA. Meanwhile, the club look set to allow David Raya to leave for Arsenal, but they have already added quality at both ends of the field. Brentford have spent big this summer on the signings of Nathan Collins and Kevin Schade, but it will be fascinating to see how they perform without their star man.
