BOXXER has scheduled January 13 at the O2 for the rescheduled clash between Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez – but a major issue has arisen.
It is understood that Boxing News has learned that this is the date set for the fight, which was canceled last minute due to Azeez’s back injury.
However, the British, Commonwealth, and European champion has been given medical clearance to fight in the new year and is close to starting his training camp again.
January 13 is the tentative date for the fight, but this coincides with another significant light-heavyweight fight, which will have implications for Azeez.
On the same night, Callum Smith is set to challenge Artur Beterbiev for his trio of world championship belts at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City.
Furthermore, as Azeez and Smith are both trained by Buddy McGirt, Boxxer may need to find a later date for the Buatsi fight.
February 3 is reportedly being considered as an option, with an announcement expected next week.
Also likely to be featured on that card is Adam Azim, if he wins the European title by defeating Franck Petitjean in Wolverhampton next weekend.
If he is victorious and avoids injury, the light-welterweight must defend the belt against Enock Poulsen before the end of February to avoid being stripped.
