BOXXER and NBC Sports announced today (October 16) a groundbreaking media rights partnership that will “bring the biggest events and brightest stars in boxing to U.S. audiences.”
The bouts will stream live on NBCUniversal’s streaming platform Peacock, with select events airing on NBC. This partnership between BOXXER and NBC Sports will reportedly “create an extension to BOXXER’s and Sky Sports’ existing collaboration” and “provide trans-Atlantic distribution of Sky Sports’ production.” Additionally, NBC Sports’ portfolio of sports programming, which includes the Olympic Games, Premier League, Sunday Night Football, Big Ten Football and Basketball, Notre Dame Football, NASCAR, and golf, will feature multiple BOXXER events per year.
The ultimate goal of this BOXXER and NBC Sports collaboration is “to bring BOXXER events to the USA.” However, the first event to be streamed on Peacock will be the light-heavyweight fight between Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez in London on Saturday (October 21).
BOXXER Founder and CEO Ben Shalom expressed his excitement, stating: “We’re thrilled to announce this significant partnership with NBC Sports, marking a major moment for our company. It allows audiences across the USA to watch our stars in action throughout the year. NBC Sports reaches millions of fans every day, providing an incredible platform for BOXXER and our elite roster in the States. We can’t wait to kickstart the partnership with a massive show on October 21, as Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez put it all on the line at The O2 in London.”
Gary Quinn, Vice President of Programming & Owned Properties at NBC Sports, also expressed enthusiasm, saying: “We’re excited to bring boxing back to NBC Sports and, with the sport’s debut on Peacock, begin a new chapter in NBC Sports’ storiedboxing history.”
