AC Milan vs AS Roma Prediction: Serie A Match

AC Milan remains in the hunt to defend their Serie A title, but they will be aware that they will need to pick up victories in most fixtures that they play given the high standard Napoli has set. Roma will be the visitors to the San Siro this weekend, as they look to go four without defeat.

Serie A Preview

It has been a competitive season in Serie A to this point, but it remains likely that AC Milan is the chief danger to Napoli ending their long wait for a top-flight title. The reigning champions sit second in the standings, and are just five points off the top of the standings after 16 rounds of fixtures.

Milan comes into their first home match following the World Cup, having gone four without defeat, while they have picked up three wins during that run. The champions started quickly on their return to action against Salernitana on the road on Wednesday, as they scored twice inside the opening 15 minutes. Rafael Leao opened the scoring before Sandro Tonali doubled the advantage five minutes later. But, they faded quickly in that match, and were eventually hanging on to a 2-1 win in the final minutes.

Jose Mourinho has been clear throughout the season that a Champions League spot is the target for his Roma side this term, and they are certainly entering the conversation at this point of the season. They still remain sixth in the current Serie A standings, but they are just three points off the top four coming into this weekend.

Mourinho would have been happy with his side’s performance on their return to action in midweek, as they defended well to hold on to a 1-0 win against Bologna. The only goal in that victory was scored after just six minutes from the penalty spot by Lorenzo Pellegrini.

AC Milan vs AS Roma Head to Head

Milan boasts an excellent recent record in this fixture, as they have gone five without defeat against Roma. That includes victories in each of the previous three fixtures between the sides.

AC Milan vs AS Roma Prediction

Milan’s home record in this fixture stretches back to 2017, and that bodes well for the clash this weekend. They will need to be more professional than they were in midweek, but we fancy Milan’s chances of getting a 2-0 win against Mourinho’s side.
