British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley acknowledges that an immediate rematch with Frazer Clarke was his only viable option after their intense split draw in March.
The duo delivered a Fight of the Year candidate at the o2 Arena in London, but the judges could not declare a clear winner.
Despite Clarke being knocked down in the fifth round and having a point deducted in the seventh, Howard Foster’s scorecard favored him with a 115-112 victory, leading to a 113-113 draw by Mark Bates and a 114-113 win for Wardley by Michael Alexander.
Now, seven months later, the two will collide in a rematch in Riyadh, with Wardley emphasizing his sole focus on settling the unfinished business with Clarke before considering any other opponents.
Expressing his determination, Wardley stated, “While I have several options due to my current belt collection and top 10 rankings, my priority was always to resolve things with Frazer. I prefer closure and moving forward rather than leaving things unresolved.”
Reflecting on their initial bout, Wardley disputed the draw, asserting his dominance throughout the match and emphasizing the upcoming rematch as an opportunity to decisively settle the result.
Looking ahead to the rematch in Riyadh, Wardley expressed confidence in his past success in the city, aiming for a clean and impactful victory on the upcoming card.
