JACK CATTERALL maintains that he will not let emotions affect his rematch against Josh Taylor on Saturday night (May 25) in Leeds.
The two super-lightweights will face off at the First Direct Arena over two years after their controversial split decision in Glasgow. The aftermath of that fight was filled with intense emotions and heated exchanges between the fighters online.
Catterall and Taylor have continued to show their animosity towards each other during press conferences in Edinburgh and Manchester leading up to the rematch. Despite this, Catterall told Boxing News that he will not let his emotions impact his performance in the ring.
“I don’t fight with emotion,” Catterall explained. “I am very strategic and focused. While there has been a lot of emotional buildup, I know how to separate my emotions and fight intelligently without letting them affect me.”
Catterall, with a record of 28-1 (13 KOs), has been impressive in his recent fights against Darragh Foley and Jorge Linares. With Matchroom backing him, the 30-year-old has a bright future in the competitive super-lightweight division. If he succeeds against Taylor, he could secure another significant fight in the future. However, if the rematch is exciting and draws a lot of attention, a potential trilogy bout might also be on the table.
“The decision for a trilogy will be up to the broadcasters, DAZN, and Matchroom,” Catterall stated.
“If they see it as an exciting fight worth repeating, then we might have a trilogy. But for now, my focus is on defeating him on Saturday and closing this chapter without looking back at Josh again.”
