The organizers of an Esports tournament at St. Mary’s College in Sault Ste. Marie aim to demonstrate to students how their passion for gaming can be transformed into a profession.
The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board launched Beyond the Game, a project that includes multiple community partners.
“Our tournament intends to raise awareness for our SMC Esports Club, and also to involve elementary students, allowing them to collaborate, enjoy themselves, engage with the excellent vendors present and understand the potential benefits of Esports for students,” expressed Daniela Veltri, a guidance counsellor at St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s Esports club gathers twice weekly during lunch breaks and is gearing up for competitions against other schools in the spring.
