Switching to the latest news in the esports world, the international competition for the location-guessing game, GeoGuessr, has recently taken place.
For those who don’t know, GeoGuessr is a geography-based browser game, where players are asked to guess a location using Google Street View.
The popularity of the game skyrocketed when numerous streamers and gaming content creators started playing it on platforms like YouTube and Twitch.
Not only can it be played individually, but players can also compete against friends or other players, racing to accurately guess a location. The closer a player guesses the location or starting point, the more points they will earn.
On October 13 and 14, the GeoGuessr World Cup esports competition was held at Space Arena, Stockholm, Sweden, with 24 participants representing their respective countries.
Citing Dexerto on Tuesday (24 October 2023), broadcasted through Twitch, the GeoGuessr World Championship managed to draw 58 thousand peak viewers.
Here, the players were divided into four separate groups for the group stage on October 13. The prize for this esports tournament is impressive, reaching a total of USD 50,000, or about IDR 797 million.
Quoted from Dot Esports, in the context of the competition, players will perform “Move”, which is moving and shifting the screen to get a better picture of the location.
Furthermore, other terms used in this esports competition are “No Move” and “No Move, Pan, or Zoom”, to limit player movement, thus increasing the difficulty level.
